~ Homework Schedule and Policy ~
The homework schedule is as follows but occasionally there may be some variation:
Monday – Math – This will either be a review of class work or a problem solving activity.
Tuesday – Spelling – Each word highlighted on the spelling list and/or written in the planner needs to be written in a well thought out and varied sentence. The children need to apply the skills they know such as; correct capitalization and ending punctuation. The spelling word needs to be underlined in the sentence and spelled correctly.
Wednesday – Math – This will either be a review of class work or a problem solving activity.
Thursday – Spelling – 12 words need to be written 4 times each. All the words need to be studied for the test on Friday.
In addition to the daily written homework, the children are to read for at least 10 minutes every night. He/she can read independently, be read to, or share the reading with a parent. The child is to write the title of the book and the author in the student planner on the correct day.
Please initial the planner verifying that your child completed the assignment and read for at least 10 minutes. It is so important during these primary years to establish good homework habits. We depend on you to oversee their homework, set up a homework schedule, and designate a homework place that works best for your child and you.
No homework will be assigned on the weekends but those children who do read will be recognized.
Our goal is to instill responsibility and pride in all the children and completing homework is one method of doing so. We do know that sometimes there are extenuating circumstances that interfere with homework completion. If that occurs please write a note in the student planner.
Children are rewarded with a PBIS spot for completing a week of homework. This is an easy way for them to earn their monthly Golden Paws. The consequence for not completing homework is completing it that night in addition to that night’s homework.
