~ Types of Writing in Second Trimester ~ Opinion writing will be a focus this trimester. As you know the children have opinions on everything. They will be learning to give at least two reasons with details for their opinions.
As a class we will be researching penguins and organizing the information. In small groups the children will be assigned to write about one of the categories. Our class book will be made from each group's piece.
Narrative writing continues this trimester with a focus on fairy tales and fables. The children will be using their imagination for this type of writing. They will be exposed to the structure of this type of narrative writing through the stories they will be reading and those read during teacher read alouds. They will recognize the beginning, middle, and ending of stories and then use that knowledge to write their own story. The students will also describe the actions, thoughts, and feelings of the main character. Temporal words (first, next, then, etc.) will be used to show changes in the story events.
Listed below are the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) that we will be addressing during the second trimester. These are end of the second grade goals.
